Enhancing Technique for Realist Qualitative Interviewing
Date: Thursday February 22nd, 9:30am - 4:30pm (Lunch Provided)
University of Liverpool, London Campus
33 Finsbury Square, London, UK.
In this workshop participants will explore and practice leading a theory-driven interview, collect rich and informative data while not "biasing" interviewee responses. How do you carry the interview into conversations that reflect ontological depth but remain trustworthy? This workshop is an advanced workshop on realist methodology that will address these sorts of questions. General principles of realism and realist methodology will be provided along with a detailed look at key papers on realist qualitative interviewing (Pawson 1996, Manzano 2016). We will explore implementing these principles with workbook examples. In the afternoon participants will have the opportunity to present interview guides that they are currently using for feedback, and will also have the opportunity to role play to enhance interview technique. Time permitting, we may also look at how to analyze qualitative data derived from realist qualitative interviewing.
