2018 CARES Advanced Study in Realist Methodology
Tuesday July 24th - Friday July 27th, 2018
University of Liverpool, London Campus
33 Finsbury Square, London, UK

The 2018 CARES Advanced Study in Realist Methodology is a 4-day intensive for advanced practitioner training in retroduction and evidence-informed programme theory development, facilitated by Dr. Justin Jagosh.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. One or more of the following: (a) participation in a prior CARES Summer School; (b) participation in a CARES Realist Methodology Training Week (requires full-week attendance); (c) published paper(s) on or using realist methodology.

2. Actively working on a research or evaluation project using realist methodology in any one of the following stages: theory development, protocol development, data collection, analysis, theory testing, modelling, and synthesis.

The advanced course will introduce fundamental principles on retroduction in realist evaluation and how to engage middle-range and programme theories in data collection and analysis. Participants can expect to improve their understanding of foundational realist concepts including 'mechanisms' and the 'context-mechanism-outcome' configuration. Candidates must be working on projects involving realist methodology and should have an interest in group consultation. There will be opportunity to receive individualized attention on projects, time to work through research design issues and discuss challenges.

If you would like to attend, please send an email to justin.jagosh@liverpool.ac.uk explaining how you fulfill the two requirements stated above. Applicants will be given a response by email and if accepted will be given specific payment instructions. If you are not sure you meet the requirements please contact justin.jagosh@liverpool.ac.uk for clarification.
