This 3-day Realist Synthesis Masterclass is an intermediate-level training course for applying realist methodology to the task of literature review. The programme will include a range of activities including didactic sessions, group work and one-on-one consultations. There are no pre-requisites for this course, however it is recommended that participants have, at least, a working knowledge of realist methodology. Topics to be addressed include:

How to establish programme and middle-range theories suitable for literature review;
How to guide decisions about the scope of data sources to be included;
How to read and code papers;
How to use data sources to construct context-mechanism-outcome configurations;
How to establish a rigorous, transparent and retroductive line of analysis;
How to conduct a rapid realist synthesis;
How to use realist synthesis for programme development;
How to convey findings from a realist synthesis

There will be time for participants to discuss on-going questions and challenges, as well as networking. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
