Realist Project Design and Protocol Development-Online
February 20th-21st & 24th-25th, 2025
This four-day workshop comprises 12 hours of training in understanding how to design projects using realist evaluation and synthesis. The training will help participants in developing their realist protocols and the execution of activities across stages of realist inquiry. Participants will improve their understanding of how to construct realist research questions and be offered the opportunity to practice planning and grant writing. Additional goals of the workshop include problem solving methodological challenges, incorporating quantitative measures in the research design and clarifying the use of the CMO configuration in analysis.
Through the training, participants will have the opportunity to:
develop and refine realist concepts for grant funding proposals;
construct realist protocols for data collection;
practice writing sections of a realist protocol manuscript for publication;
design qualitative and quantitative data collection instruments using realist thinking;
clarify ‘context’, ‘mechanism’ and ‘outcome’ areas for participant projects;
describe plans for stakeholder advisory group meetings to validate theories and present findings
